Sub-Basement Artist Studios

(The Atrium at Market Center)

118 N. Howard St.

Baltimore, MD 21201

(4 blocks from Oriole Park at Camden Yards)

When:

Saturday, Dec. 1st 6-8pm

What:

Nicknamed “The Doc,” the Document is a dynamic convergence of unbridled breakdancing and Abstract Expressionism. A team of DC & Baltimore area artists (Bat, Peter Chang, Brandon Hill, Alex Meiners, Curtis Alia and Geoff Chang), they collaborate to create a unique and exciting hybrid of visual and performance art. Utilizing their bodies to move paint, this team of innovative artists challeng traditional boundaries of art making. The paintings are made by the actual movement of “B-boying” being the vehicle to push paint over a surface, and in many ways they have turned the human body in to a highly skilled paint brush, one that will stop working without a Break-beat. They have bridged many distinctive forms of art and have found a way to pay homage to all of them in a nontraditional way. Through painting, photography and videography they share their enthusiasm for sharp moves, improvisational painting and hip-hop. With two showings under their belt and a robust collection of works, this raw mixture of acrobatics and gesture painting promises to be a refreshing gallery experience.

Quote:

“Many talk of Blood, Sweat, & Tears in their art, but that is purely an expression to convey “hard work.” This show however has encompasses all of the above including a broken bone or two, sprained joints, bruises, cuts, etc; but in the end you have some cool shit.”
